Florida Real Estate Course Syllabus.
Florida 7 hours Property Description course.

Approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation
This module is designed to provide information on legal descriptions of properties. The module continues with information on identifying and locating the owners of the properties. The module will review describing property using Metes and Bounds, the Government Survey System and the Lot and Block method of property description.
Continuing Education is required for both active and inactive real estate brokers and salespersons. Active or inactive brokers or salespersons must take a 14-hour continuing education course during each 2-year license period following the initial license renewal. The 14-hour course must contain 3 hours of core law and 11 hours of specialty topics that focus on real estate issues relevant to Chapter 475, Florida Statutes. Successful completion of this course satisfies 7 hours of the 11 hours of specialty credits for continuing education.
Property Description and Ownership
This module is designed to provide information on legal descriptions of properties. The module continues with information on identifying and locating the owners of the properties. The module will review describing property using Metes and Bounds, the Government Survey System and the Lot and Block method of property description. Learning objectives for the licensee:
- Identify properties using County tax records.
- Identify property owners using County tax records.
- Calculate the square footage of a parcel using a metes and bounds legal description.
- List disadvantages of property descriptions which use monuments.
- Identify angles using degrees, minutes and seconds.
- Divide degrees into minutes.
- Divide minutes into seconds.
- Calculate the square footage of a rectangle.
- Convert square footage to acreage.
- Calculate the acreage of a parcel using a metes and bounds legal description.
- Calculate the square footage of a trapezoid.
- Calculate the square footage of a parallelogram.
- Calculate the square footage of a triangle.
- Calculate the square footage of irregular polygons.
Government Survey System
Learning objectives for the licensee:
- Identify the location of the intersection of Florida's Base Line and Principal Meridian
- Number Ranges lying east and west of the Principal Meridian.
- Number Townships lying north and south of the Base Line.
- Identify the positions of sections in townships.
- Identify the section numbers in townships abutting a given township.
- Identify the relative locations of Townships described in the Government Survey system of property description.
- Determine acreage of a portion of a section using the Government Survey method of property description.
- Describe designated portions of sections using the Government Survey Method of property description.
- List disadvantages of property descriptions which use the Government Survey method of property description.
- Recognize the elements of platted subdivisions
- Locate easements on subdivision plats.
- Locate dimensions of lots on subdivision plats.
- Locate dimensions of rights-of-way on subdivision plats.
